Mnemonic floor plan
Read the following articles to find tips on how to more easily memorize passages of text.

Create a floor plan for a space that is familiar to you (as an example, your house). Chunk the text of your spotlight into meaningful parts. Distribute your chunks of text throughout the floor plan you created. Make visual associations that would connect each passage of text with its location in the floor plan. Post your floor plan to the "Public Speaking" section of your blog.

Tips for controlling stage fright
Assignment:
Have a friend video tape you performing your spotlight. The camera shot is to be framed using the rule of thirds. Make sure to wear a microphone. Turn on the mic if you are using one of the condenser microphones. The script is to be memorized. Make sure you don't wiggle on camera, and avoid the "shifty eyes" look by keeping direct focus on a specific spot (this year we decided to look straight into the camera).
Performance Rubric
A- memorized, proper rate, intensity, articulation, pronunciation, no vocalized pauses
B- one of the speech parameters could use improvement, eyes do not maintain gaze on target.
C- more than one of the speech parameters could use improvement; could be more familiar with material
D- looked at a script during the performance; did not memorize the correct break.
E- did not perform

Tips
Create a rough draft and plan where your information will go. Having a plan will increase your efficiency.
Use the cut out and mount method. This will prevent you from having to start over each time you make a mistake.
